Getting Around

Getting to Klamath County is easy no matter how you choose to travel. By car, you’ll travel some of the most spectacular roads in Oregon and Northern California on your route here. Amtrak rail service is also a great way to sit back and take in the scenery.  Once you arrive there are multiple options for you get around.

BY CAR

FROM I-5 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

71 mi. from Weed, CA – Take the northern Weed exit, then Hwy 97. Driving time: Approx. 1 hr.

FROM I-5 EUGENE, OR

174 mi. from Eugene, OR – Take Hwy 58 towards Oakridge/Klamath Falls. Hwy 58 becomes Hwy 97. Follow South to Klamath Falls. Driving time: Approx. 3 hrs.

 

FROM I-5 MEDFORD, OR

80 mi. from Medford, OR – Take Hwy 62 towards Crater Lake. Turn left onto Hwy 140 towards Klamath Falls. At intersection of Hwy 140/Hwy 66, turn left, then right onto Hwy 97 North. Take the City Center exit into Klamath Falls. Driving time: Approx. 1 ½ hrs.

 

FROM OR-66, ASHLAND, OR

64 mi. from Ashland, OR – Take OR-66/Green Springs Hwy 66.  Turn left onto Dead Indian Memorial Road. Turn right into Clover Creek Rd. Merge onto OR-66 E. Merge onto Hwy 97 North then take the City Center exit into Klamath Falls.  Driving time: Approx. 1 ½ hrs.

FROM HWY 140 LAKEVIEW, OR

97 mi. from Lakeview OR – Take Hwy 140 west towards Klamath Falls. Driving time: Approx. 2 hrs.

CRATER LAKE-KLAMATH REGIONAL AIRPORT

The Crater Lake-Klamath Regional Airport is located about six miles from downtown Klamath Falls at Kingsley Field. The airport is part of Kingsley Field, which supports the Oregon Air National Guard’s 173rd Fighter Wing, a unit that provides training and instruction for Air Force F-15 fighter jet pilots. The airport recently expanded and remodeled its terminal.  The airport offers FREE parking and offers rental car agencies available on site.. The airport’s primary runway, at 10,301 feet long, is the second longest in Oregon. Charter airplane service is provided by Klamath Aircraft, which also offers airplane service and maintenance. Flight instruction is available through Pelican Aviation.

ROGUE VALLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport is located in southwestern Oregon on 855 acres adjacent to the city of Medford, Oregon’s central business district. The Airport is located north of the I-5/Highway 62 interchange.  The Airport serves the Southern Oregon/Northern California region, with the majority of the Airport’s users residing within Jackson County. In 2016,over 822,000 passengers used air transportation and aircraft operations totaled over 39,000.

BY TRAIN

Klamath Falls is served by daily north and southbound Amtrak passenger services as part of the Coast Starlight route. Amtrak also makes daily stops at Chemult in northern Klamath County with bus service to and from Chemult and Bend, and, in season, the Mount Bachelor Ski Resort.

You will love the scenery along the Coast Starlight route – known for its exceptional beauty, with often spectacular views including Upper Klamath Lake, Williamson River, Crescent and Odell lakes and lush pine forests through Klamath Country. As part of the Rails-to-Trails program, on-board guides provide information about the Klamath Basin and its history, geology and flora and fauna during selected trips.  The Coast Starlight is Amtrak’s beautiful coastal journey from Los Angeles, CA to Seattle, WA.  Traveling daily, the Coast Starlight ventures through the Santa Barbara, the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Portland to Seattle. The Coast Starlight also offers the Pacific Parlour Car, as well as on board dining and either coach seats or sleeper cars for accommodation.  The views on the Coast Starlight are undeniably amazing!  Enjoy seeing Mt. Shasta, Mt. Hood as well as other forests, rivers, valleys and more.

The Klamath Falls train depot is located within easy walking distance of the Klamath County Museum along with downtown businesses and restaurants. Future plans call for extensive remodeling and improvements to the depot.

BASIN TRANSIT SERVICE

Basin Transit Service Transportation Service District (BTS) is the provider of public transit services in Klamath Falls, Oregon. You can find them located in South-Central Oregon on the Oregon/California border. Their service area is roughly the size of the Urban Growth Boundary which includes the City of Klamath Falls and the surrounding suburban County neighborhoods.
